A downloadable game for Windows

Make your rounds as a village's chief medical expert! Examine your patients and craft the right cure to fit their needs!

In keeping with the theme of "Take Care", you play as a plague doctor who must protect their village from a terrible plague that has swept across the kingdom.

Hunt for reagents in the Midnight Forest!

Interact with thirteen individual NPC's, each with their own daily routines and special roles!

Each game is completely randomized, so no two playthroughs are the same!

How long can you last??

CONTROLS

On the village screen,  click on locations to visit them.

When visiting a home or the town square, using WASD or ARROW KEYS to move your character. When near a villager, press [T] to talk to them. Use WASD or ARROW KEYS to navigate conversation choices.

When exploring the Midnight Forest, use WASD or ARROW KEYS to move your character and press [E] to pick up any reagents you come across.

Press [I] at any time to open up your inventory menu. Use WASD or ARROW KEYS to navigate. On the left side of the menu, any reagents you pick up or cures you crafted are listed. Press [X] to throw out 3 of a selected item. On the right side of the menu is an index of all the cures you can create. Press ENTER to flip to the selected cure’s page, where it’s ingredients and attributes are listed. While on a cure’s page, pressing [C] will craft 1 of that cure and place it in your inventory if you have enough ingredients.

HELPFUL TIPS

Pay attention to the notification bar at the top of the screen. It will alert you to villager movements and deaths!

Reagents replenish in the Midnight Forest with each passing hour, so be sure to visit often!

Each day, any laborers in the village will leave to go to work if they are not quarantined. When they return, they will donate part of their earnings to the village treasury!

When administering medicine to a villager, giving them a reagent will have no effect.

Be sure that the cure you give to a villager will heal the symptoms they have before you administer it. You can view each cure’s attributes in the crafting menu (found in the inventory).

Villagers can transmit symptoms to each other, so if one falls ill be sure to check their roommate for the same issues.

It was amazing that in 3 days you were able to create a beautiful world which runs smoothly and simulates a whole village and interactions. Top marks for this game

The game looks solid but the learning curve is also quite steep, I couldn't understand what to do with sicknesses. I successfully gave something to the Mrs. with hair loss, but it didn't cure her.

Yeeeahh, the learning curve is one thing I'd like to improve in future versions of this project. Be sure that the cure you're giving to the villager is the right one for the job. Most symptoms can only be cured with certain elixirs.

Kudos, this game is very good and I love the theme. I would love to see a full game using this idea. What engine did you use? Is amazing how much you accomplished in just 3 days.

Thank you for playing! We made this using GameMaker Studio 2. Lots of very late nights to get it to this point before the deadline, haha

I don't know what to do after the two tutorial text boxes disappear. I hear sounds when the WASD are pressed but I don't see anything on the screen.

The game looks very solid and I'd love to play it.

Thanks for the comment. I added some controls and helpful tips to this itch page. Hope that helps you get started!

Thanks, I was able to play the game.

I really like the overall feel of the game i.e. sprites, sfx, animations but I feel like I don't enjoy the main activity of examining people that much. Searching for the ingredients was fun though.

Also, I think it would be great if you could add a table or bullet points to explain the controls quickly and then explain them in detail below. Or maybe just add some screenshots with controls on them.
